Imagine you have the power to fly.

Pretty awesome, right? Imagine you have the power to levitate or crush something the size of a Winnebago. Equally awesome. Now ... here’s the catch having the power means you are bonded irreversibly to a smartass, sociopathic alien life form.

Not so awesome.

So, what would you do with all of that power? The way I figured it, I had one of two options Option #1) Use it to commit crime or Option #2) Use it to fight crime. My name is Gabe Garrison and I chose Option #2.

This is my story …

Superheroes in Prose Vol 1 Welcome to Prose eBook Sevan Paris

The title in some ways definitely describes the book. It read like a comic book only using prose rather than pictures.

Character development was scant. The powers of the main character are revealed immediately as is his link to an alien intelligence that gave him the powers, but little more is explored on any character.

Instead the story jumps from fight to fight to fight, as the "hero" tries to save himself from a succession of opponents with clouded motives.

The story is short and definitely more of an introduction than a fully realized plot.

For lovers of action scenes, this is a good book, but that's about all it was. I liked it enough to give 3 stars, but beyind that can't say its good enough to recommend. If you like supoer hero stories go with Wearing the Cape or Confessions of a D-list Supervillian first.

Superheroes in Prose Vol 1 Welcome to Prose eBook Sevan Paris Reviews

Gabe is someone who probably needed an M long before M actually came along. I love how the author has M say to Gabe exactly what you as the reader were already thinking. It's fantastic! And I literally laughed out loud during several parts of this book. It's funny though - b/c I feel this weird sense of connection with Prose. Like I've been there or something. ) This is totally a book worth checking out and once you read the first one you won't be able to say no to the others.
Writer of Space Pulp and over a dozen volumes in Superheroes in Prose, I can safely say Mr. Paris is doing something truly unique in the superhero market incorporating great tales within a larger, more developed, framework of fiction. This first volume lives up to the hype and Gabe Garrison is a character you will want to rally around. Trust me.
Going into this I had few expectations, but I came away quite impressed.

Aside from the slow first half, the story was excellent and came across exactly like a comic book in... well, prose. It was light, fun, and had a "stellar" ending.

One of the biggest surprises was the setting of the story (basically Chattanooga in all but name). As someone who lives in East Tennessee, I felt like the author had a good grasp on the setting and conveyed it rather well. I'm still trying to process that the area has the largest concentration of superheroes in the world, but maybe the author explains why in further installments.

The performance itself was also excellent. Bryan Reid has a good grasp on the way he tackles characters like M, and handles the various character interactions with grace.

In conclusion fun story, great performance, and Tennessee awesomesauce. I'll definitely checking out the next installment.

4.5 out of 5 stars
Good sale. But it's friggin' STUPID that I have to write a minimum number of words. Crap. Three more to go.
I liked the plot although the book was extremely short. The characters were a little rushed and I would like to know how have got his powers. All in all, it was a good book though.
I find all of the books in this series incredibly entertaining. I have no idea why, they're just hilarious.
Relatively new hero in a city where it's illegal to be an unregistered super struggles to keep his identity secret while also dealing with the parasitic alien life form that gives him these powers, who has reluctantly attached to him only as an alternative to death and is constantly talking in his head (think Blue Beetle, except the alien, M, totally hates all of humanity)
This was a fun albeit very short read and for that I'm sad; less than a hundred page. It's a pretty fast paced book filled with engaging action scenes and a surprise ending. But what I think was the best feature of Prose was the dialogue. It was witty and filled with endearing and funny quips, (hence my title). The interactions between Gabe and M alone I think made this into a very good book.
