You're seeking the ultimate experience, but is the prospect that you'll be dead in the next twenty four hours a thrill too far? Fourteen T-types make landfall on Apocritas - a newly discovered, earth-like planet with extreme sporting challenges to test one's mettle. Only there's an unanticipated additional event - dodging the bullets fired from two of the party's self-appointed hunters. Climbing precipitous peaks, wing suiting from dizzying heights and white-water rafting down a torrent more hazardous than the Colorado, are just three of the stages to be completed. As if that wasn't enough, the native prehistoric animal life is less than friendly. Enough of a challenge?
They thought they’d be earning accolades from fellow coffin-dodgers and a cash prize, but the greatest reward might just be their continued survival.
From the author of The Psychonaut comes this fast-paced tale of inter-galactic horror.

Could have greatly benefited from proper editing. The spelling for Imaritta's name changes multiple times. Saw it Immarita, Imarrita, and even Imarritta.

Lots of both British (dictionary know have some of them either) and American slang. Not a big deal, except the terms are being used by all, I can't even begin to think how country twang and cockney together would sound. Trying to power through anyway.

!SPOILER ALERT!
I knew the Greco's had help from a promoter, since the drone cameras were gone and the psycho twins also had low jack on the other contestants. I figured it was Zowie pretty much when Eden called in the S.O.S.
I surmised that the guns, ammo, atomiser etc were probably placed at the probably already damaged way stations.

Coffin Dodgers A Sci-Fi Horror Book
By Tom G.H. Adams
5 out of 5 stars

The story Coffin Dodgers A Sci-Fi Horror Book by Tom G.H. Adams is a thrilling science fiction book. Fourteen T-types make landfall on Apocritas, a newly discovered, earth-like planet with extreme sporting challenges. Once they make landfall, there is an unanticipated event- trying to stay alive from two of the party’s self-appointed hunters. Now the rest of the party are running for their very survival while climbing precipitous peaks, wing suiting from dizzying heights, and white-water rafting down a torrent. Then there is the native prehistoric animal life that are far from friendly. The prize on this trip may just be their lives.

What a story! This fast-paced story begins with the drop-off and takes off from there. There is not a minute to spare as the contestants in this contest are fighting to live. The native wildlife that is described is a rogues’ gallery of characters. Water creatures, walking reptiles, and even a creepy insect that are not there to welcome anyone. The contestants not only have all the physical difficulties to deal with, they are also being picked off one by one like ducks in a barrel. This is one book where I had to remember to breathe as you just didn’t know what was going to happen next. This story is an amazing example of a science-fiction/thriller/horror book. It is the first book I have read by the author and I can honestly say it will not be the last. I love his writing style and character development. I received a copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it.
What would happen if THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME was set in the future, on an alien planet? What if instead of one person set loose in the wilderness, it was a team of competing extreme athletes?

That’s the simple premise behind the latest from Tom G.H. Adams, the aptly named COFFIN DODGERS. A group of extreme athletes and thrillseekers, here designated T-types, are sent to a newly discovered world, there to compete for a fat cash prize.

Soon, however, they discover that they are competing for more than money as they are being hunted and killed in a sadistic hunt. As I’ve come to expect from Tom, he leans way in on the horror, sometimes seeming to bring the gore for gore’s sake, but never ignoring the impact it has on his characters. While I do feel the motivation for his villain(s) is a bit over the top, I can appreciate how he worked the interplay of sex and violence into his text. He does an excellent job of getting into some of the characters heads, and I will say for villain of the piece, that was an insight I did not rightly relish.

Tom does an excellent job of setting up the tension between the hunters and the prey, and while there are elements of the chase I wish he would have explored more (how were the hunters tracking the other contestants? why didn’t the contestants realize something was fishy about the “contest” sooner?)

The novella did fall a little short for me in places. Given how it is set in the future, I would have appreciated a more diverse group of characters. All of them come from Earth, with no real delving into how a Mars colonist might compete. Some ethnic stereotypes are given broad strokes as well (the Australian pilot being the most glaring example). The planet as well, while interesting, relied heavily on it being an Earth analogue, albeit one still going through its own prehistoric development… complete with creatures that looked an awful like what you might find in Jurassic Park. I would have appreciated creatures perhaps a bit more alien, or at least flora that was less benign than what our contestants encountered here.

Overall, for a quick read, it is very enjoyable.
awesome read
Lots of speed, lots of danger. Intriguing characters who live life on the edge.
I want to say something about this book but the only thing is PUT IT DOWN. This book was written for 12 - 16 year old boys. And many of them have better taste and more sense than to enjoy this dribble.
The author transports the reader to a planet with prehistoric animals and fauna. The premise is that a group of extreme event athletes. They must navigate the planet and the first place team will be rewarded accordingly. However, this is a horror novel so all the participants are not playing by the rules. The story is a real page turner and I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I recommend this book because it delivers a well written storyline.
What a delightful change of pace. This book is about a futuristic Iron Man type competition where rules get ditched and it's really a run for your life competition.

I didn't know what to expect when I chose this book, it was action packed and fast paced and I loved every word of it. Not my normal type of story but that made it all the more enjoyable. The writing is good and the characters are developed. Worth reading if your looking for something different than traditional horror.
